Video Advertising No Longer Lives on a Single Screen

For a long time, talking about video advertising mainly meant talking about television.

For a long time, talking about video advertising mainly meant talking about television.

We know this well, especially in Italy, where the habit of keeping the TV on in the background is more deeply rooted than anywhere else.

When audiovisual media first became widespread, there was one screen, viewing times were fairly predictable, and planning revolved around reaching a broad audience.

Today, that landscape has changed profoundly.

People still watch video content, but their viewing is increasingly fragmented across different environments: smart TVs, streaming platforms, smartphones, computers and, of course, the digital screens they encounter outside the home every day.

This is where Connected TV and Digital Out of Home come into play: two seemingly distant ecosystems that share a fundamental characteristic.

Both allow brands to create video communication that is more relevant, contextual and increasingly driven by data.

CTV has transformed the television into a digital environment, moving beyond undifferentiated communication towards more precise audience planning. DOOH has done something similar in public spaces, turning traditional OOH placements into dynamic, programmable digital platforms that can adapt messages to their context.

One thing is certain: the way we think about video advertising has changed. There is no longer a single moment to reach an audience, nor a single screen through which to do it.

People constantly move between different environments and moments throughout the day. They watch a series at home, leave for work, pass through a station, walk through the city centre and enter a shopping mall. Their attention moves with them—and so do the opportunities to communicate.

Today, digital advertising takes many different forms, each with its own logic.

Yet we still believe that hard numbers, performance and logic are the foundations of the best possible strategy.

But what if we changed our perspective? What would we see?

What if we focused on quality rather than quantity? How would our briefs change?

This small provocation raises another increasingly important question for the media industry: what if the real value lies not in choosing the right screen, but in connecting all the screens that accompany people throughout their day?

We are talking about a new frontier in video advertising.

A frontier so new and exciting that we cannot resist exploring it in our next article.
