DOOH & CTV: Two Screens, One Audience

As we explored in our previous article—and as we can see for ourselves—video communication is undergoing a profound transformation.

As we explored in our previous article—and as we can see for ourselves—video communication is undergoing a profound transformation.

Audiences are no longer gathered in front of a single screen. They constantly move between different environments, devices and viewing moments.

Many activities overlap, and audiences use a wide range of media solutions. Yet few of these truly communicate with one another.

Among those that do are CTV and DOOH. As we have already discussed, they are distinct but complementary touchpoints, capable of reaching the same person at different moments throughout the day.

Connected TV allows brands to reach people at home while they watch streaming content, through increasingly targeted, data-driven communication.

Digital Out of Home, meanwhile, takes the message beyond the home, reaching audiences on the move, in urban spaces, at shopping destinations and in places where people gather.

This complementarity is precisely what makes their integration compelling. It is about more than using two video channels: it is about creating continuity throughout the audience journey.

A message might, for example, reach someone through CTV while they watch content at home, then reach them again through DOOH during their commute or near a store.

Two different environments, certainly, but part of the same strategy: extending reach, building frequency and making the message more memorable.

In this context, technology is what connects the different touchpoints.

Data, audience targeting, geolocation and programmatic planning make it possible to move beyond traditional channel-based media plans towards planning built around the audience.

The real value therefore lies not simply in the ability to buy CTV and DOOH inventory, but in understanding both ecosystems as parts of the same journey. Technology makes it possible to define whom to reach, where, when and how often, creating a more coherent and measurable strategy.

Measurement is one of the most important aspects of this evolution: a campaign’s effectiveness can no longer be assessed solely through fixed, rigid data points.

Combining CTV and DOOH opens the door to a broader view of performance: from reach and frequency to metrics such as brand lift, ad recall, engagement and footfall, when the campaign aims to move audiences from exposure to a message to action in the real world.

The result is a shift in perspective: from planning screens to planning how to reach people across screens.

So, what comes next? It looks like the future is a video strategy without boundaries.

CTV and DOOH are not competing worlds. They are two communication environments that, when connected through data and technology, can create a broader, more coherent and measurable video experience.

This is the direction in which media is moving: an ecosystem where the boundaries between home and out of home, and between digital and physical environments, are becoming increasingly blurred.

Because the future of video advertising will not be about choosing which screen to use. It will be about knowing how to make screens work together.
